Nambung National Park (Pinnacles)
Travel 230 kilometres north of Perth and you will find the fascinating Pinnacles Desert, located in the Nambung National Park. The scenery is impressive and peculiar in its moon-like landscape. The Pinnacles are essentially limestone formations; ranging from a few centimetres tall to a few metres high.
The Pinnacles were formed over time from lime discharging from the sand; and from the rain having a cement effect on the lower levels of the dune, producing a soft limestone. The yellow quartz landscape provides impressive imagery, which one could imagine existing on Mars. The Pinnacles are renowned for their mysterious beauty and have, over the years, been a popular subject to photographers from around the globe.
The National Park covers 17,491 hectares. The park offers pristine coastal bays and white sandy beaches. Facilities include toilets with disability friendly access, barbequing, picnicking, snorkelling, fishing and tourist information.
