The Meckering Earthquake Site marks a point in history that took place on October 14, 1968. The town of Meckering was reduced to a pile of rubble in a matter of 40 seconds, in an earthquake that measured 6.9 on the Richter Scale.

The fault line is still visible today just 11 km from the current town site.
