GPS Systems

Welcome to Shark Bay CEO Chris Pye with DriveWA 4WD
Ever wondered what a GPS is?

The Global Positioning System (GPS) consists of a network of 24 satellite transmitters in orbit around the earth in several different orbital paths; making two complete orbits every 24 hours.

Each satellite continuously broadcasts a reference signal, so you can receive a satellite signal from anywhere in the world.

A ground-based GPS receiver can accurately determine your position when it receives a signal from three or more of these GPS satellites.

The GPS can provide a cost-effective solution for managing a variety of services including:
  • Location reporting and logging
  • Tracking
  • Fleet management
  • Security
  • Field coordination
  • Occupational Health and Safety issues
Therefore, a good GPS receiver is a wonderful tool for all DriveWA adventurers. The modern GPS can be loaded with all the major WA city street maps!

There are GPS options you can hire that plug into a car's cigarette lighter and sit on the dashboard. This offers extensive mapping and search capabilities. You can use the digital mapping functions of DriveWA.com to their fullest, as you can utilise the ‘Find It’ service to get a map around any given GPS point.

REMEMBER: A simple GPS is not expensive to hire or difficult to use. If you are going into the outback you need one because you need maps, and you need to know how to use them.

There are help books on this subject. If you would like more assistance email us, or contact our preferred suppliers ARB in Osborne Park and WACB centre in East Perth. They have experts that will point you in the right direction.
