Kalgoorlie

Inside Australia Statues on Lake Ballard

Kalgoorlie was once in the heart of the gold rush and is one of the few towns that survived. It is a great base point for the history buffs wanting to visit ghost towns of the gold rush.

Kalgoorlie is most renowned for its mining industry. The town boasts a Mining Hall of Fame and the Superpit for visitors wanting to see mines and experience the history if the industry.

Of course, Kalgoorlie is not only about mining. It is also home to the only working brothel museum in Australia, Langtrees. Take a tour and see inside a brothel.

Kalgoorlie is a destination at the end, or beginning, of a few trails. The National Trust's Golden Pipeline Heritage Trail leads visitors between Perth and Kalgoorlie; stopping off at various points along the pipeline. Another trail, the Golden Quest Discovery Trail, runs through Coolgardie, Kalgoorlie, Leonora, Laverton, and a number of ghost towns.

While in Kalgoorlie there is pleasant and inexpensive accommodation with the friendly staff at Best Western Hospitality Inns Kalgoorlie.
