4.Kimberley Escapes - with the Loot!

Boab's at sunset The Boab is iconic in the North West
Kimberley escapes with the Loot is something you need to order at least once in your life!

Now the wording is a little confusing - I could not resist with theGetaway Car and Jailors etc having the Loot in it somewhere - the Loot is irish Australian DriveWA lingo for the Lot! - like a hamburger with the Lot is something I cannot do any more - but this I can.

The Kimberley is one of the worlds great adventure playgrounds and great as it is - the best of it - (and we always want the best for our clients of course) is not for your average small suburban Getaway car type vehicle.  Unless you have a very well prepared 4WD vehicle (in our opinion) the best way to do the Kimberleys is in someone elses Getaway Car and our very favourite itinerary of that type also has a train trip in it and some great spots for you to camp if you are well equipped which saves some money of course and gets you out under that fantastic Kimberley moon and starlit skies.

Our Great Kimberley escape does not include a train robbery but does include one of the great train rides of the world - the Ghan from Adelaide to Darwin via Alice Springs (or if you like doing things backwards from Darwin to Adelaide).

So you need to take part of your DriveWA escape outside Western Australia (which goes a bit against the grain for us of course).  For a couple of the great Australian self drive adventures you just have to do your bit for the rest of the great nation in which I live.

I recommend you take this trip anti-clockwise which means going from Perth to Adelaide and then via Alice Springs and Darwin to Broome and back to Perth - everything good starts and finishes there!.

The really great thing about this adventure is that you can have several adventures on one trip with so much to see and do - so you can also do our Warlu Way escape and our Swans drive to Ningaloo escape itineraries and if you want to start with a little drive you could conceivably do our Gold n Waves tour on the way - confused - I hope not - surely not - well keep reading as it will all be revealed in good time!

This is a BiiiiiiG trip! But a once in a lifetime set of experiences that you should take your partner or your whole family on at some time in your life - and it is not inexpensive but it is a great investment - you are only on this planet for a short time and while you are here you should escape the Jailors for enough time to see the best parts of it.

Many people will need a little help to sell you this one from a friendly travel agent with this one - we recommend our friends at Broome and the Kimberley Holidays, Discover West and Trio Travel - we cannot sell air or train really as we are not travel agents.

But you can do all that is necessary yourself on the internet if you are keen to do that but lets see how it unfolds and then you can decide how best to do it.  By all means email us some queries if you like and we will respond as soon as we can!

Perth to Adelaide

Have a look at our Perth to Kalgoorlie sectors of our Gold n Waves itinerary and consider doing at the very least the Golden Pipeline and Golden Quest segments of those itineraries on your way to Kalgoorlie or perhaps go to Esperance and Wave Rock on the way.

Once in Kalgoorlie dont waste the trip - stay there a couple of days and see the sites and sights we recommend at least.

Then there is a difficult choice - to train or not to train - the Indian Pacific would take you and your vehicle to Adelaide and that is also a great way to do the Nullabor Plain - in a train.

We have driven the Nullabor a lot and it is a good drive but perhaps not as great as the rest of the options we are suggesting and it makes a long trip of the thing.  Its up to you and if you want more information about that sector email us and we will have a chat by email about it.  I will write some pages for it when I get finished with current projects.

But one way or another you have to get to Adelaide to meet the mighty Ghan - and by all means go by ship, train or plane if you want and hire a Getaway car in Adelaide, or Darwin or take your own - all options are available but just get to "The Ghan" – and if you can afford it consider the "Platinum Service".
