Dowerin is located 156 kilometres North East of Perth, with a population of approximately 860 people. The town lies centrally in the Wheatbelt. The climate is hot and dry summers, with little rainfall in the winter. The land is used mostly for agriculture, grain growing, and sheep, meat, wool production.

The name is taken from the Aboriginal language word ‘Daren’ which was given to a series of lakes outside the town.

Dowerin is recognised nationally for its machinery field days. In 1897 Dowerin was first settled with the settlers using the land to grow wheat and graze animals.

Built in 1915 as a cottage it was lived in until 1968. It now displays artifacts collected by people in the district from the 1920's to the 1930's.  more
