Northam is situated in the Avon Valley 97km east of Perth and has a population of 7,000. Northam is situated around a beautiful setting of natural bush. The Avon River winds through Northam, with parks and walkways on either side.

It is a nice place to have picnic and watch the unusual white swans play on the water. The Suspension Bridge, which crosses the river, is the pride of the local community. The bridge is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Australia.

The Northam Heritage Trail is a 2km walk which highlights all the historical points of the town.
