Dwellingup is a small, typical timber town. In the middle of a state forest it is linked by a government railway between itself and Pinjarra which was built in 1910. The town was practically destroyed in 1961 when a storm started a bushfire which lasted for five days. Many small towns were completely destroyed and Dwellingup was the only one rebuilt.
