The name Cowaramup is derived from Cowara, the Aboriginal name of the purple crowned lorikeet, that once inhabited the area.

Apart from being a regional centre for agricultural pursuits, Cowaramup, is now also designated a centre for Arts & Crafts. Being centrally located to the many attractions of the whole region.
