The Great Southern Railway reached Brookton in 1884 and the town was gazetted in 1899. Brookton got its name from the farm named Brookton House, used by one of the first landowners in the area, John Seabrook.

Brookton is located 138km south-east of Perth near the Avon River and has a population of 595. Brookton boasts scenic countryside.
